Works
In addition to her excellent painting techniques, Tia also loves experimenting on a variety of materials, inspired by the locality where she was born and raised, to create her outstanding artworks in order to bring a part of Vietnamese culture and spirit to the rest of the world.
‘Feeling cloud-like is to feel free and flexible. A cloud travels to nowhere but goes everywhere. It is not a conqueror, but it flows above everything else. You cannot fight it; you cannot own it. You cannot touch it and you’ll never know what lies beyond it.’
- Tia-Thuy Nguyen
Tia-Thuy Nguyen (b. 1981) was born and raised in Hanoi. After graduating from the Vietnam University of Fine Arts in 2006, she moved to Ukraine, where she achieved her PhD in Fine Arts at the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture, of Kyiv in 2014. Tia-Thuy Nguyen has been practicing painting since 1999. Her artworks focus on the observation of her surroundings, and the colorful yet chaotic feelings of a woman living in a modern world. Being conscious of the difficulties of the Vietnamese art scene, in 2016, Tia-Thuy Nguyen founded The Factory Contemporary Arts Centre, the first purpose-built space for contemporary art in Vietnam, that aims to be a destination for the display of, and education about art and design, demonstrating the creative criticality of Vietnam today.
